Joe Biden and Xi Jinping to Meet in the US. The White House revealed that issues related to the US-China military will be a priority for discussion at the meeting of United States (US) President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping which will be held on November 15 2023.
United States National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, on CNN’s State of the Union program said that China had basically cut off these communications links.
Meanwhile, in another program, he said that this issue had become a priority for Biden, and they needed this communication channel to avoid mistakes, such as errors in calculations or misunderstandings.
Joe Biden and Xi Jinping to Meet in the US. China itself suspended communications regarding the military with the US in 2022. This was done as a form of protest over the visit of the then speaker of the DPR, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan.
Then, military relations also became more complicated when Beijing in March 2023 appointed a US-approved general as defense secretary, and cited the removal of the act as a condition for talks with Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin.
Li Shangfu’s sudden dismissal as Defense Minister last month paved the way for China to appoint an unsanctioned minister. This has the potential to remove one obstacle in high-level negotiations. China itself has not appointed a replacement for Li.
Sullivan said that military communication channels must also be restored between top defense officials down to the tactical and operational levels. Apart from that, Biden and Jinping will reportedly also discuss Iran on Wednesday (15/11), during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in San Francisco.
